The roots of what would become BriefHistory.net began in 2005 with 2 other websites: HistoryofSports.net and HistoryofHolidays.com. Over the years these 2 websites would grow in size and popularity. These 2 websites received a large quantity of visitors and the people who visited usually stayed to browse the website. Unfortunately, the Ad revenue for these history related websites was not enough to keep the websites profitable. In fact, the annual costs of hiring writers to craft articles for the websites were greater than the ad revenue that these websites generated. Sometime around 2012 they closed up shop.
While these 2 websites were the most popular, there were a few other history related websites that shared the same fate. There were also many popular history related articles written for various websites which I owned and were closed down over the years.
BriefHistory.net launched around 2010 but it never achieved the popularity of HistoryofSports.net and HistoryofHolidays.com.
In 2022, BriefHistory.net relaunched with a new more appealing design and a much larger set of content. BriefHistory.net combines articles from over 7 different websites. In addition to the short articles, I have includeda lot of photos to keep things light and approachable. The articles were all written by various professional writers over many years
Perhaps the biggest change is that my objective for the website is no longer to make it profitable. If it brings someone joy to read some of these articles than it was worth the time spent creating it.
Don't take my word for it - all of this information is available on the Wayback Machine which is a great website that promises "Explore more than 702 billion web pages saved over time". The Wayback Machine takes snapshots of websites over the past decades. Take a look and you will find most of the BriefHistory.net's articles in older websites from the early 2000's which I owned and eventually shut down.
